Max Allegri spoke to the media today ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Pescara which will see Juventus hope to maintain its 6 point advantage or increase it ahead of the Easter break.
“Before the conference, since I didn’t get a chance to do it yesterday, I’d like to say a thanks to President Berlusconi and to Galliani for the opportunity they gave me to Coach and to win with Milan,” said Allegri.
“Italian football will definitely miss them, they made history in Italian football. So I salute both the President and Mr Galliani with great affection.”
“As for tomorrow’s game, it means a lot to us as it’s worth three points. It’s a game where, if I’m not mistaken, Juventus have previously taken a beating in Pescara after a European game [5-1 in 1992-93].”
“So tomorrow we must be focused, because the most important game between now and the end of the season is always the next one, so after Barcelona the most important game is now Pescara.”
“Pescara are a team who are playing really well right now, they run and they play to hurt their opponents, so they’re not a team who will sit back and we need to be good at handling this type of game.”
“Tomorrow Neto will play in goal, then [Paulo] Dybala will play, as will [Mario] Mandzukic and [Gonzalo] Higuain.”
“Some players will be rested. [Sami] Khedira won’t play, [Leonardo] Bonucci is suspended so he won’t be there.”
“Tomorrow we need to show that even if there are a lot of changes, as there have been in recent games, you always have to get the result. That’s what counts.”
“So tomorrow we need to play a correct match, we need to be calm and take advantage of the opportunities which we will get.”
“Juan Cuadrado? I’m having doubts over whether he or [Mario] Lemina will play on the right.”
“[Andrea] Barzagli will start, the doubt is between [Medhi] Benatia and [Daniele] Rugani.”
“[Moise] Kean is not yet ready, he’s had some good training sessions but he’s not with the team yet.”
Is Juventus overlooking Pescara and gearing towards its massive tie with Barcelona on Wednesday?
“We’re thinking about winning the game tomorrow, then we’ll have four days to prepare for the Barcelona game.”
Allegri switched to the 4-2-3-1 formation after a loss to Fiorentina earlier in 2017 and the results have been fantastic ever since. Is the formation change the key to Juve’s success?
“It’s not the most important thing,” Allegri mentioned during his press conference.
“It’s a long year, there are times where you do one thing and times where you do another, during a game you might do one thing and then have to switch to something else in the course of it.”
“I made the choice after the Fiorentina match because I thought it was right to give something more to the team, and to allow the team to express its full potential.”
“Above all, novelty always brings enthusiasm. The lads did well, because at the end of the day when you have a group of lads who all make themselves available, it’s easier to get results.”
“Above all, Juventus are distinguished from the others by important moral values.”
Paulo Dybala penned a new deal with Juventus on Thursday, linking him to the club until 2022, the player was keen to thank coach Allegri for his work in slowly introducing Dybala into the squad.
“First of all, Paulo’s words pleased me but the credit is all his.”
“I only gave him indications, what he could do, where he could grow and where he can grow again, because he has huge potential for improvement.”
“Paulo and Neymar will definitely become the world stars of the future.”
Max Allegri famously scored against Juventus in a 5-1 win in 1992-93 and was asked about that goal today.
“We were already relegated and it ended 5-1,” Allegri recalled in his presser.
“That shows that these games are traps. Traps if you don’t face them in the right way, they aren’t traps if you have the right determination.”
“The lads are very responsible, we had a good training session this morning and I think the team will play an intense match tomorrow, physically, mentally and – this is what counts – technically to take three points.”
“What do I remember? I scored one or two goals, it was a strange game. I think Juventus were coming off a UEFA Cup game or something like that, or they had it to come.”
“I remember that we were relegated but we played pretty well, when those kind of teams are playing with no more pressure to get a result, you have everything to lose if you don’t face them in the right way.”
“That’s why we have to do well. It’s normal that after the game on Tuesday, a 3-0 win over Barcelona which doesn’t happen often, there’s a wave of enthusiasm and excitement.”
“That’s what makes it the most dangerous moment. As with everything we can’t live on excitement, but on enthusiasm, desire and even depression when things go badly, as long as it’s balanced.”
“We played the first game and it went well, but we still have to face the return in Barcelona where we’ll need to play better than we did on Tuesday.”
“It was an important result, but not definitive. So we have to get our feet back on the ground and the lads realised that quickly. It’s normal that there’s enthusiasm from everyone, but enthusiasm is one thing and getting carried away is another.”
“In football you can hurry to be the best in the world and quite quickly become the laughing stock of the world. So we need to be balanced.”
“You can win or lose in football, but what’s important is balance, because being balanced will always lead to success.”
