Juventus director Giuseppe Marotta gave a very candid (so it seems) interview to the Corriere della Sera last night. He discussed many things, including a potential offer for Donnarumma in the future, and a rejected bid for Alex Sandro by Chelsea.

What do you think about the Donnarumma situation?

“For clubs it’s increasingly difficult to handle these situations,” Marotta said to Corriere della Sera.

“We’re faced with a radical change in the image of a young footballer, now they have professionals close to them and they play out their career, even in opposition to the clubs which raised them. That’s a fact.

Is this scenario right?

“The rules need to be changed, and the efforts clubs make in the youth sector must be protected with some kind of compulsory apprenticeship.

Will Juve sign him?

“Could Juve sign him? It’s clear that Juve have the right to examine every opportunity. When a player is on the market we have a duty to try.

Are Juve behind his decision?

“Are we in for him? At the moment, no…

Is Donnarumma a top player?

“He’s a talent, then we have to distinguish between a talent and a champion.”

Allegri wanted to quit after the Cardiff defeat. What did you say to him?

“These were the thoughts of only one night. For us, he is one of the best coaches in the World, and he still has a lot to give to the Juventus cause.”

Will you sign another “Higuain”?

“Could we get another Gonzalo Higuain? No, that was an extraordinary expense. We’ll stay in the ordinary, even if the valuations being thrown around are crazy.

How about Verratti?

“Verratti? Given his tactical features and the investment required, he’s a profile which doesn’t interest us.

Will you sell anyone?

“Not by our own will, but we are against clubs who can guarantee much higher wages.”

Will Schick arrive?

“Patrik Schick? There’s nothing official, but we’re following him. He represents someone for the future.”

Cuadrado and Bonucci? (The director moved away from those two players and focused on Alex Sandro)

“Chelsea made a very big offer for Alex Sandro,” Marotta admitted, speaking to Corriere della Sera.

“We said no, but today players are masters of their own destiny.”

Will you sign Iniesta?

“Andres Iniesta? Not achievable, sustainability and consistency in results mean we have to respect certain parameters.”

And Costa?

“Thanks to Bayern we’ve contacted the agents for the player’s availability, but the Germans have to be willing to sell him and the price has to be something we can agree on.

What is the situation with Keita?

“I’ve read some words which certainly didn’t come from Lotito, because they’re nonsense.

“I know the rules, and I’d certainly never have approached a player owned by someone else.

Is it sometimes the player who offers himself to the team?

“I’d say that when you find a player’s contract expiring, it’s normal that there’s be some effervescence with the player and his representatives, which makes them think of a different future.”

Will Neto stay?

“To satisfy his requests, he’s on the market,” Marotta replied.

“Milan? We haven’t had any offers, for now.”

Have you lied to us at all in this interview?

“Maybe a few white lies, but nothing that causes harm.”
